Summary of the 2017 SuSIE

MRI scan

The 3rd Summer School on Imaging in Epilepsy took place from July 9th to 12th 2017 at Rauischholzhausen Castle, near Marburg, Germany. During three days, 48 participants from 19 countries had the option to choose between 14 lectures and 15 workshops held by 25 faculty members. Participants were mostly neurologists and neuropedatricians with focus on diagnosing and treating epilepsy patients, but also neurosurgeons, neuropsychologists and neurophysiologist.

The topics were structural imaging (epilepsy specific MRI and morphometric MRI analysis), classical functional imaging (fMRI, PET, SPECT), language lateralization and localization, DTI fiber tracking, EEG-fMRI, electrical source imaging, and neuronavigation/intraoperative MRI. The key note lecture was held by Prof. C.E. Elger, Bonn, Germany.

Again, the evaluation of the SuSIE was excellent, as in the past years. On a scale from 1 (very poor) to 10 (excellent) participants rated workshops as follows: “topic met” with a mean of 9.1, “practicability for daily work” with 8.6, “presentation” with 9.0, and “interactivity” with 9.0. The lectures received excellent ratings, too.

We thank all participants, speakers, sponsors and the organization team an look forward the upcoming 4th Summer School on Imaging in Epilepsies.

Announcement of SuSIE 2018

The 4th SuSIE will take place from August 12th to 15th, 2018, again at Rauischholzhausen Castle. Structure and content of the 2017 SuSIE will be maintained (Monday lectures, Tuesday and Wednesday workshops). However, some further developments are planned:

  • On Sunday, 12th of August, two parallel scientific meetings shall take place: one on connectivity analysis in epilepsies, and one on MR-physics in epilepsies (coil- and sequence development). Participation is free of charge and possible independently of the SuSIE. You are welcome to contribute with session proposals, oral presentations and posters.
  • During the SuSIE Forum (Monday night) there will be an occasion for eastern European participants to discuss practical application of epilepsy imaging in their region. The session is led by Anna Miron, North-East Carpathian Epilepsy Center, Suceava, Romania.
  • Furthermore, based on the experience with the excellently rated and therefore repeated BESA training course on electrical source analysis given by Stefan Rampp (1 lecture, followed by 3 consecutive work-shops) we plan a 6 hour training session for morphometric MRI-analysis (MAP07 software by H.-J. Huppertz).

We look forward to a lot of discussions, vivid exchange with colleagues and an inspiring key note lecture. The final program will be published by December 2017. The registration website will open January 2018. Suggestions for the scientific meeting on Sunday, 12th of August, 2018, are welcome at:
